Sophia Horwitz

Sophia Horwitz is co-founder and director of Co*Lab and Mainstreets and helped catalyze the Planning & Design Centre, Placemaking and Participatory Budgeting in Halifax. A global citizen based in Nova Scotia Sophia brings international project experience from Honduras, Cuba, Turkey, the Netherlands, Sweden, Japan, and the UK. Sophia hosts processes that support generative conversations and co-creation to uncover innovative approaches for social impact. Sophia’s passion for connecting ideas, people and places for systemic change has inspired her to lead change projects for resilient communities, thriving places & spaces using creative forms of civic engagement.

She is currently facilitating a Sustainability Leadership Certificate at Dalhousie University and researching opportunities and challenges for placemakers and exploring what a cross Canada placemaking initiative or organisation would look like.
